The Jamaat-e-Islami will hold a countrywide referendum on September 16, against the US interference in the country and the drone attacks.
A meeting held at Mansoora with the JI Secretary General, Liaquat
Baloch in the chair, worked out the details of the programme. JI
secretaries from all the provinces and representatives of its sister
organizations attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to carry out an extensive advertisement campaign
for the referendum from September 11 up to 15. Ballot papers will be
sent to the JI offices all over the country. The campaign will be
carried out through wall chalking, banners, stickers and hand bills.
Seminars will also be held at major media centers..
Addressing the meeting, Liaquat Baloch said that the JI had at the
very beginning, warned of the negative effects of the US cultural and
military invasion on this country, and the prevailing conditions had
vindicated the JI stance. He said the JI’s Go America Go drive was
exactly in line with the sentiments of the masses.
He said the JI had earlier adopted a Referendum to elicit public
opinion against the Kerry Lugar Bills and the overwhelming majority of
the people had rejected the US house legislation.
He was confident that the Pakistani people would take part in the
referendum on September 16 and clearly express their hatred for the US
interference in this country. SANA
