US drone strike kills 4 militants in Pakistan

A US drone strike targeting a vehicle in Pakistan's north-western tribal belt near the Afghan border killed four militants on Tuesday, local security officials said.

The missile attack, the second in two days, took place near Qutub Khel village, 5km east of Miranshah, the main town in the restive North Waziristan district.

The semi-autonomous tribal areas of Pakistan are home to various Islamist militant groups, including the Taleban and other Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents who operate across the border in Afghanistan.

Tuesday's attack came as Mr Marc Grossman, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, met with diplomats from the two countries in Islamabad.

'Two missiles were fired from a US drone targeting a militant vehicle. So far, four militants were killed,' a security official said.

Another security official in the area confirmed the attack and the toll. In a strike on Monday two drone missiles killed at least four militants in South Waziristan. - AFP
