ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has taken notice after the federal
government had failed to terminate the services of judges who took oath
under PCO (Provisional Constitutional Order) and summoned Attorney
general’s (AG’s) reply by 05th August.
The case would be
reviewed by a Bench chaired by CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary on
Friday. It is pertinent to note that in its 18th May verdict, the apex
court had issued specific instructions to terminate the services of
judges who had taken oath under PCO, and were hence denied any further
extensions in 18th amendment.
The government and attorney
general had written back to Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), requesting
it to take the issue under its preview; but the secretary of SJC,
registrar Supreme Court, Fakir Hussain wrote back to government, that
after the Supreme Court’s verdicts these judges could not carry on
their positions and should be considered as dismissed.
The
government however failed to take necessary actions to terminate the
services of these seven PCO judges, since long, due to which the
Supreme Court took notice of the fact and summoned AG as thus.
These
seven PCO judges include, Justice Zahid, Justice Hamid Ali Shah,
Justice Shabir Raza Rizvi, Justice Yasmeen Abassi, Justice Jehanzeb
Rahim and Justice Zahid Hussain. Online
