ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) while allowing 15 days more to Anti
Terrorism Court (ATC) in the case of Sarfraz Shah who was killed by
rangers has directed that case be decided on merit.
A 3-member
bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP)
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the case for hearing Wednesday.
Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Mazhar Chaudhry appeared in the court
during the hearing. He submitted that ATC could not decide the case
within the time frame prescribed by SC, therefore, more time be
allowed.
The court while granting his plea has allowed 15 days more with the directions that case be decided in transparent manner.
It
may be recalled that Sarfraz Shah was killed by the Rangers in Karachi
in broad daylight. SC had taken suo motto notice and issued directives
for suspending DG Rangers and IG Sindh.
The SC had maintained
that FIR be registered against the accused persons and ATC should
decide the case within a month and file report in SC. Online
