The growing energy demand in Pakistan provides immense opportunities for Chinese investors, said a minister.
Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar said Tuesday in Beijing
that the growing energy requirement in Pakistan is a challenge for the
government.
Leading the Pakistani delegation in the first China-Pakistan Joint
Energy Working Group (JEWG) meeting, the minister said the Chinese
government had extended ‘every possible support to Pakistan at all
times, especially in the hours of need’.
He said that Pakistan has always been proud of having extremely
friendly and strong ties with China, reported Associated Press of
Pakistan.
The minister added that Pakistan is currently faced with energy
demand-supply gap and the the government wants to resolve the energy
crisis with active support of friendly countries, especially China.
‘As per estimates, there is a deficit of around 5,000 MW in our
system, which could further grow in future due to rapidly increasing
growth in power demand,’ Qamar was quoted as saying.
He said Islamabad has always encouraged participation of Chinese
entrepreneurs, investors, and manufacturing companies to participate in
the development of all sectors of Pakistan’s economy. IANS
