Sindh govt empowers Rangers, FC with police authority

KARACHI: Sindh government has empowered Rangers and FC (Frontier Constabulary) with powers equal to police, in a Tuesday meeting chaired jointly by CM Qaim Ali Shah and interior minister Rehman Malik.

The meeting decided that FC had been called in; as reserves, and using the powers of police would be responsible for searching, snap checking, and arrests.
The interior minister Rehman Malik has also given specific orders to Rangers and FC troops to carry out immediate action against miscreant elements, trying to create law and order situation; while Rangers have also been directed to carry out operations in sensitive areas of city.
According to CM House, FC has been summoned only as reserve troops, but has so far not been deployed in any parts of City as yet. However sources have informed that 1000 FC personnel have been ordered to conduct immediate operations in sensitive parts of City.
All final decisions in this regard would be taken by CM himself. Online
