NA starts debate on law & order situation in Karachi, Quetta

The National Assembly started debate on the law and order situation in the country particularly in Karachi and Quetta.

Earlier, the house suspended the private members’ business to start debate here on Tuesday to start debate on the law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta.
The House referred the Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2011 to the standing committee concerned of the House for further deliberations. The Bill was moved by Parveen Masood Bhatti.
Taking part in the debate on law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta, the members said that Karachi is an economic hub of the country and serious efforts should be made to check the situation there. They said that the armed assailants have made the entire Karachi hostage and the police force has failed to take any action against them.
Demanding probe into the incidents of target killings, the members said political efforts be geared up to cool down the sentiments of the people in Karachi. They suggested that a committee having representation from each parliamentary party be formed, which should submit a report in the House after visiting and examining the situation of the provincial metropolis.
They said the House should also be informed as to how many persons have been killed in the incidents of target killings in Karachi and the number of persons arrested during the last two months.
Those who have taken part in the discussion so far include Rana Tanveer Hussain, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Laiq Muhammad Khan, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Abdul Qadir Patel.
The members said a meeting of all stakeholders should be convened on the situation of Karachi to find out a political solution of the matter. Besides de-weaponization, they said there is a dire need to accept the existence as well as the social and political rights of all the big and small parties to ensure sustainable peace in Karachi.
Others who took part in the debate included Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Molvi Asmatullah. Later the house was adjourned to meet again today (Wednesday) at 1.00 pm. SANA
