Shahid Afridi may sue 'loose cannon' Butt over 'not captaincy material anymore' remarks

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi can drag Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt to court over his latest remarks against him, the all-rounder's lawyer, Syed Ali Zaffar, has said.

In a recent interview, Butt had said: "In my opinion, perhaps considered wrong by some people, he made us lose the fourth and fifth one-dayers.

As far as I am concerned he is not captaincy material for the PCB anymore."

"Ijaz Butt's statement that Shahid Afridi will not captain the Pakistan team again is not only very irresponsible, but is like an order or direction to the Governing Council members and to the Selection Committee not to even consider him," The Nation quoted Zaffar, as saying from Karachi.

The PCB chairman chooses the captain in consultation with the GC members.

"In this regard, in my opinion, Mr Butt is usurping the authority of the GC members and Selection Committee (who are practically left with no discretion now to consider and make a decision on Afridi issue) and is clearly acting illegally," Zaffar said.

"Afridi can take him to Court if he so chooses. I will however add that I have had no discussion with Afridi in this regard", he added.

Afridi's lawyer went on to say that Butt is a "loose cannon", and noted that under the PCB's Constitution, its "chairman virtually enjoys dictatorial powers." (ANI)
