Journalists’ help necessary to probe Salim Shahzad killing: Justice Saqib Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Judicial Commission constituted to probe into killing of journalist Salim Shahzad met here Saturday under Justice Saqib Nisar in Supreme Court (SC) and Commission members and senior journalists appeared before it. During the meeting of commission Justice Saqib Nisar said investigations would not move forward without the cooperation of journalists.

He said the journalists who would furnish evidence and facts about the incident would be provided protection. 38 items found by Mandi Baha ud Din police from the vehicle of Salim Shahzad were also presented in the meeting of commission. They included utility bills, credit cards and other things.
Commission reviewed in details e-mail and phone data of the deceased. Commission has sought CC footages of different areas and record of Islamabad toll plaza and Mandi Baha ud Din toll plaza and maintained the entire record would be reviewed on technical grounds Senior journalists apprised the commission of threatening calls being received by them and the hindrances being created in the conduct of their professional duty. One journalist told that not only he but his wife also received threatening calls.
Justice Saqib Nisar while issuing directives for ensuring security of the journalists said protection will be fully provided to media men as the probe into this incident was next to impossible without journalists. Next meeting of commission will take place on July 18. Online
