Sport: Pak beat Afghanistan in SAARC Baseball Cup

LAHORE : Pakistan outclassed Afghanistan 21-1 inthe inaugural match of the first SAARC Baseball Cup-2011 thatcommenced at the Punjab Stadium here on Tuesday.

The home team thrashed the Afghan pitchers from the verybeginning making 14 scores in the first innings. Batters Arshad Khanand Farooq Khan batted with authority and made two scores each withone home run. Sumair, Imtiaz, Zubair Nawaz, Arif Iftikhar, Asif alsomade useful contributions. They all made two score each.
In the second innings Pakistani batters continued their thrashingbut this time in a mild manner, they made six scores. Iftikhar madeone home run. The hit was so huge that the ball landed outside thestadium.                 Imtiaz, Arshad, Farooq Khan, Mohammad Arif and Asif made one runeach. The match ended in the third innings when Zafar made one homescore to take the total to 21. Afghanistan's Nisar made oneconsolatory home score in the third innings.
Earlier, Baseball Federation of Asia Secretary General Hyun Lee,President SAARC Baseball Federation and Pakistan Baseball FederationShaukat Javed met with the players of both teams. Waheed AkhtarAnsari, additional secretary sports Punjab and chairman receptioncommittee was also present.
Sri Lanka will play against Nepal on Wednesday (today) at 3.00pm.
