LAHORE : Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig in a letter toPresident Asif Ali Zardari advised to take up the matter ofadditional custom duty imposed from 24th July 2011 by Turkey on theimport of Pakistani textile products. As per the decision there willbe additional 18% custom duty to be charged on the import of denimfabric from Pakistan, making total duty 24.5% instead of original 6.5%.
Dr. Baig said Pakistan is the main exporters of grey and denimfabric to Turkey for their value added textile industry and both thegovernments are in an advanced stage to do the trade between the twocountries by land route which reduces the transit time to 12 daysinstead of 30 days by ship.
Dr. Baig informed that both Presidents will discuss measures toincrease bilateral trade and investment between Turkey and Pakistanand withdrawal of newly imposed duty on Pakistani textile willcertainly boost our exports of textile to Turkey.
