KARACHI: Former captain Javed Miandad visited a two-day conditioning camp at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore, which started on Tuesday.
He gave tips and instructions to the players in two sessions.
In addition, Coach Waqar Younis also made the players to undergo batting and bowling training session.
The whole team will undergo full day training on Wednesday (today).
Meanwhile, Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam said the national team needs a batting coach and Javed Miandad was approached for this assignment but he refused.
Miandad had earlier said that he would consider taking up the job after Pakistan’s tour of West Indies.
Miandad was approached by Shahid Afridi and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt following a shaky performance in the World Cup, during which there was no Pakistan batsman in the top 20 run-scorers list.
Miandad, who has had three stints as Pakistan’s head coach and is a director with the PCB, had said in early April that he would not travel with the team to the West Indies, but would work with the batsmen before their departure, as he did for Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand last year.
Reacting to Miandad refusing the post, Afridi said the board should look for “other batting greats” to take up the role.
“If he Miandad is not available, then the board can hire other batting greats that this country has produced, or even look at a foreign batting coach,” he said.
“Pakistan cricket has to move on and it is not as if we have produced just one great batsman in the past.”
While talking to media during the training camp at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Intikhab Alam said that fitness level of the team has improved.
He said efforts would be made to maintain the same standard in the team. The manager said that like the people, the players were also disappointed on defeat in the World Cup semifinal.
He said that he is grateful to the people and the government besides media for getting a favourable response after being defeated in the mega event and this is a good tradition.
Intikhab expressed hope that there are good chances for Pakistan to win against the West Indies.
He said that a batting coach is a necessity of the team.
Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to leave for West Indies on April 14, where they will start their tour with a practice match against West Indies University team on April 18.
The Men in Green will officially start the tour with the only Twenty20 International match on April 21.
Pakistan are due, to play a Twenty20 International, five One-day Internationals, and three Test matches during their tour of Caribbean.
