KARACHI : Experts from medical profession and pharmaceutical industry shared their researches and experiences relating to the Alzheimer disease at a seminar, organized at the Universityof Karachi by local NGOs -- Inner Wheel Club of Karachi and Mera Ghar -- at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) premises.
Fatima Surraya Bajya expressing her feelings retracted the concept of old-age houses in our country, and instead stated that Alzheimer patients should be given respect at home so that there is no need ofold-age houses.
At the lectures delivered at the seminar concern was expressed towards the sufferings of patients Alzheimer disease.
Dr. Saad Shafqat, associate professor and head of neurology department of JPMC and Dr. Shiekh, head ofpsychiatry department, Dr. Raza-ur-rehman and Dr. Shiela Punjwani highlighted causes, symptoms and treatment of Alzheimer disease.
Alzheimer is mostly present in the people of old-age. The cause of the disease is trauma, low level ofeducation and also genetically inherited.
Symptoms of Alzheimer are dementia, disability to understand different things, fatigue, pain, constipation and short term memory loss, etc. Such patients, however, remember their childhood or those memories which were in patient’s memory before Alzheimer.
About treatment of the disease, they said that caregiver is the main source of treatment of the Alzheimer patient. They said that these patients do not require tablets. They require caregiver and humble behavior by each and every people present around them because when we communicate by any man only 7 per cent words are included, 38 per cent are intonation and 55 per cent body language is included.
