GHALLANAI: Eight militants were killed and 12 others sustained injuries when the jetfighters and gunship helicopters shelled their hideouts in Baizai tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Tuesday, official sources said.
The sources said that the forces hit suspected hideouts of militants in Badmanai, Suran Darra and Mithai areas in Baizai tehsil, killing eight militants and injuring 12 others.
In other developments, two soldiers were injured in a roadside blast in Suran Darra area, while unidentified bodies were also found in Alingar and Sheikh Baba areas in Safi tehsil and were buried in Larkaro area.
Meanwhile, two more electricity towers were blown up in Qandaharo area of the tribal region by suspected militants early in the day. The forces also defused a landmine in Kodakhel area. Lt General Asif Yaseen Malik, Corps Commander Peshawar, also visited Mamad Gat camp of the Frontier Corps in Safi tehsil where he enquired after the health of the injured soldiers.
The corps commander was briefed about the progress made in the military operation in Mohmand Agency. The roads and bazaars in Ghallanai and Mian Mandi were closed during the visit of the corps commander.
