Shahbaz Sharif seeks joint efforts against terrorism

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that it is the collective responsibility of all Pakistanis to strive for national development and prosperity.
He was addressing assembly members from Faisalabad and Sargodha divisions at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Tuesday. Senior Adviser Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Adviser Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz and Kh Ahmad Hassaan, RPOs, commissioners, DCOs and DPOs of the districts concerned were also present.

Calling for a strategy for equitable distribution of resources and supremacy of law, the chief minister stressed the need to evolve a national roadmap to meet the challenges and problems facing the country. He said that all segments of the society should play their role for elimination of terrorism and extremism.

Terming terrorism the biggest problem of the country, he said the Army, administration, police, civil society, media and people of all walks of life would have to contribute for ridding the country of the menace.

Shahbaz Sharif said corruption and nepotism were rampant in all sectors during the last era of dictatorship, adding that national resources were looted mercilessly and new records of corruption were set by the Musharraf regime. He said that Transparency International had termed the Punjab government of 2006 as the most corrupt. He said that present government had eliminated corruption from the province and all resources were being utilised for the provision of basic amenities to the masses.

He said that no one could accuse the government of corruption and Transparency International had also endorsed this fact. He said that maintenance of law and order was the responsibility of the government and police and collective efforts were needed for the purpose.

Assembly members, paying tributes to the chief minister for his untiring efforts for providing relief to the people, said that he was the hope for Pakistan and they would continue to support him in the implementation of welfare projects. The MPs also apprised the CM of the pace of implementation of development schemes and problems of their areas. The News
