China keen to set up special economic zone in Karachi

Karachi - China is keen to set up a ‘China Special Economic Zone’ near Karachi in collaboration with the provincial government of Sindh, and in this regard a high-level delegation would visit China soon to discuss modalities.As per details, a meeting was held here on Wednesday,
with Adviser to Sindh CM for Investment Zubair Motiwala in chair. Deputy Head of Mission of Chinese Consulate Pan Qing Jiang led a Chinese team that attended the meeting. The Chinese delegation showed interest in setting up a ‘China Special Economic Zone’ near Karachi in collaboration with Sindh government and sought further details from the Sindh Board of Investment. The meeting also discussed holding mutual road shows, business meetings and trade-related moots to boost bilateral trade. Chinese delegation said they are interested to invest in sectors of cold chains, value added products, high productivity farming methods, coal, solar and wind energy, mining and minerals especially granite processing, fishing, prawn farming,  livestock, Halal meat, value addiction to milk products, tannery, textile, construction especially urban development, engineering especially automation and downstream engineering, food and beverages, transport and logistics and tourism. The meeting decided that a delegation of Pakistani officials and investors, led by Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah would visit China soon to discuss further modalities.
