Supreme Court summons interior, defence secretaries in missing persons’ case

Supreme Court of Pakistan while adjourning the case of missing persons till tomorrow (Wednesday) has summoned the secretaries of interior and defence to appear before the court for explaining the status of Masood Ahmed Janjua and Faisal Faraz.

Two member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Javed Iqbal and comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan heard the petition of Amina Masood Janjua and Zenab Bibi, in which they rejected the government claim that Masood Janjua and Faisal Faraz were allegedly killed by al-Qaeda six years ago.
During the hearing of the case Justice Javed Iqbal in his remarks said that no one is above the law, adding that the court has the authority to call anyone in the court.
Amian Masood during the hearing said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken the suo moto notice of her husband’s disappearance in 2005 but after passing five years she has nothing achieved instead of repeated hearings in the court.
She said that her husband is being kept at the Westrige area of Rawalpindi by the personnel of spy agencies, adding that her husband is alive, adding that it might be possible that the security agencies have shifted her husband to another place.
On this Justice Javed Iqbal while condoling, Amina Masood said that you have seen a lot of hardships in recent years, as life is not bed of roses.
Justice Javed Iqbal said that the court would not announce its verdict until it could not know about the point of view of secretaries of interior and defence ministries.
During the recent hearing of the missing persons case it was disclosed by the Additional Attorney General KK Agha in the court that Masood Janjau and Faisla Faraz had been killed by the al-Qaeda six years ago; meanwhile the claim was rejected by Amina Masood Janjua saying that both persons were alive and were in the custody of the secret agencies
SC directed Interior Secretary Khwaja Sadiq Akbar and Defense Secretary Gen (retd) Syed Athar Ali to appear in the court during the next hearing of the case, which would be held tomorrow (Wednesday) in the chamber of the Justice Javed Iqbal. SANA
