SHC disposes off MQM plea against deferment of AJK polls

Sindh High Court on Monday disposed of MQM’s petition about by-polls on two seats for Kashmiri immigrants in Karachi.
A Division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed and Justice Muhammad Aqeel Abbasi conducted hearing on the petition filed by MQM.
Sindh Advocate General Abdul Fatah Malik submitted the written statement in the court and assured that the Sindh government would make security arrangements when the elections on these two seats would be held.
The court directed the Sindh government to prepare a report and submit it to Azad Kashmir Election Commission after taking all the stake holders on board.
MQM lawyer Dr. Farough Naseem also present his arguments in the court; meanwhile after the reply of the Sindh government the court announced its verdict and declared that whenever the decision of postponement of elections is made all the stake holders should be taken into confidence.
The court also observed that it is the responsibility of the government to provide security for the elections.
Earlier on Monday, AJK Election Commission announced to hold polls on 2 seats of immigrants in Karachi on July 20 simultaneously.
After elections commission announcement for holding polls on July 20, MQM’s petitions in SHC become irrelevant as purpose of the petition was already served by the AJK Election Commission.
Meanwhile the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court (AJKHC) has also announced its reserved verdict over MQM’s same kind of petition against postponement of polls on Karachi’s seats.
The AJKHC has instructed the AJK Election Commission to make concrete arrangements for holding polls on two seats of immigrants in Karachi on July 20.
Earlier on June 26, the AJK Election Commission postponed polls on two seats of immigrants in Karachi over security risks.
The MQM alleged that the PPP was demanding one seat from Karachi but after its refusal the PPP postponed polls of both seat on false security reasons.
Previously, these both seats were won by the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and this year again MQM was sure to win these both seats again. SANA
