ISLAMABAD: Special Advisor to Prime Minister on social sector
Shehnaz Wazir Ali has said that to achieve Millennium Development Goals
of health, Pakistan needs greater level of resources and investment
which unfortunately we don’t have and its likely that Pakistan will not
be able to achieve its MDG’s on health by 2015.
She was
speaking to a session of Action Lab, Roundtable on MDGs and Health
organized by LEAD Pakistan on Tuesday. President Hearth file Sania
Nishter, CEO Shirkat Gah Khawar Mumtaz, health experts and large number
of students also attended the session.
Speaking to the
participants Shehnaz said that Pakistan is confronting so many issues
at one “We have several challenges before us but the most prominent
challenge is human development and human security, It means how to we
as a state come together and put our resources planned in such a way
where the two indeed serve the needs of majority of our people” she
added.
She said that we have set up our own targets for health
sectors after realizing we will not be able to achieve our target of
health MDG’s by 2015.
She also said that MDG’s are indeed
extremely difficult target to achieve but that does not mean we have
not made any progress we do have more children at school what we have 5
years go we also have more extensive network of health facility.
She
said that BISP program is one example of that which government of
Pakistan launched to help poor families by providing jobs, micro credit
and vocational trainings.
President health file Sania nisther
said that 18th amendment has dissolved health and we all support
devolution of health as a subject but there are national roles in
health which needs to be maintain at national level like health
information is national responsibility which can’t be devolved to
provincial level.
She said that for health sector we need evidence as basis for decision making and subsequently implementation. Online
