KARACHI: PML-N president Mian Nawaz Sharif has said had his
government been as corrupt as the present government he would have held
elections voluntarily a year before schedule.
“If such
situation had prevailed in my government and corruption had been
rampant then I would have announced voluntarily to hold the elections a
year before schedule. We want that we should move ahead through
elections. If some one is not living up to the expectations of people
one should quit government voluntarily”, he said this while talking to
media here on Monday after his meeting with Mumtaz Bhutto, chairman
Sindh National Front.
Zulfiqar Khosa, Senator Mushahid Ullah
Khan, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah, former governor Sindh
Mamnoon Hussain, Salim Zia and others were also present on the
occasion.
“My meeting with Mumtaz Bhutto is aimed at fostering
love and peace which is good for the future of country”, Nawaz held.
“Every where embarrassment reigns. Whenever delightful news comes it
delights my heart. Otherwise we continue to think when good news will
come. Such worries were not faced by common man 10 years ago. But now
the situation is otherwise as every body is a victim to such disturbing
situation. If we look towards future of Pakistan, we see nothing
there”, he remarked.
He went on to say that government had
become accustomed to extending begging bowl for even small needs. The
situation will improve remarkably if Prime Minister donates 9 out of 29
billion rupees of his discretionary funds and there will be no need to
extend begging bowl, he remarked.
“The situation in interior
Sindh is pitiable, he said adding “I came here last year and I went to
prime minister and suggested that we should together help the flood
affectees so that their miseries could be mitigated. I had proposed
Yousuf Gilani to disburse Rs 100,000 each to flood affected families.
However only Rs 25,000 each were given to them”, he recalled.
Talking
of Karachi situation he said political parties are coming to
reconciliation and it should happen. But there should be no
reconciliation with the criminals particularly with those who killed
the people and the Supreme Court had identified them, he stated.
“We
would not allow any one to put the peace of Karachi at stake, Mian
Nawaz Sharif underscored. Those who are behind worsening the situation
would be brought to justice”, he said.
Pakistan made progress
well in 1991, he said adding Manmohan Singh was the then finance
minister of India and he had admitted that he had studied Pakistan
policy and Indian business community put pressure on him that Pakistan
business policy be adopted so that they could outpace Pakistan. Online
