ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan is facing a number of
problems during the verification of electoral rolls process in FATA.
This
was told to by Chief election Commissioner Hamid Ali to a delegation
hailed from FATA which called him on in his office here on Monday.
In
this regard, a meeting was conducted which was chaired by Justice (R)
Hamid Ali Mirza, Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan and
attended by the learned Members Election Commission (MECs), namely
Justice (R) Mohammad Roshan Essani, Justice (R) Riaz Kayani, Justice
(R)Shahzad Akbar Khan and Justice (R) Fazal-ur-Rehman. Ishtiak Ahmad
Khan Secretary Election Commission, Joint Secretaries of ECP and Deputy
Election Commissioner (FATA) were was also present in the meeting.
The representatives from FATA pointed out a number of problems being
faced during the verification of draft electoral rolls process and
after due consideration the following decisions were taken by the ECP:
First
of all, despite adverse law and order situation all efforts will be
made by field staff to complete the verification exercise by the target
date that is: September 30, 2011 through out the country.
Secondly,
verifying officials will be deputed to visit registered IDPs Camps for
verification of the voters. However, the IDPs will be registered as
voters at places of their original residence and not at the addresses
in the Camps. Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) will
send a list of registered IDPs Camps to the ECP for further necessary
action as indicated above.
In addition, instructions are being
issued to the verifying officials through the PECs for correcting the
particulars of voters on the Draft Electoral Rolls wherever needed
according to the particulars given in the CNIC including addresses
corrections with red ball-pens.
Furthermore, in FATA, the
verifying official/teacher belonging to a particular electoral area
shall be appointed, if possible, possible in that area for verification
of voters.
Photocopies of existing electoral rolls as well as
draft electoral rolls may be provided on request against payment at the
expense of the applicant and that the data of
verified/unverified/augmented voters of the electoral rolls, 2007
provided by NADRA would be made public.
