ISLAMABAD: Federal government had devolved the ministry of food and
agriculture to Provinces according to 18th amendment, but has decided
to re-constitute the same.
Reliable sources have informed
ONLINE that before devolution of the ministry, the federal government
was controlling 56 departments; out of which 16 departments were
devolved to Provinces under 18th amendment, while federal government
retains 40, which were duly transferred to trade and industries’
authority.
However in its recent decision to reorganize the
food and Agriculture ministry at a higher level, it has been
reconstituted to look after these 40 federal departments.
Sources
have also informed that any other ministry did not have the expertise
to run such gigantic and scientifically based institutions like
National Research Council (NRC), which also owns and operates 1400
acres agro land. Besides this there are many other departments whose
future has been also been catered for.
Sources have further
informed that federal government lacked coordination for carrying out
effective research in agro progress and crops, for ensuring food
security, through cooperation with global aid organizations. Federal
government also lacked coordination with Provincial government. Online
