Leader of the House in the Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has
said that the government is well aware of the miseries of the flood
affected people and is making all out efforts for their relief and
rehabilitation.
He was winding up the debate on the flood situation in the country with particular reference to Sindh province.
Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said President Asif Ali Zardari and
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani themselves visited the flood
affected areas and directed for speeding up the relief efforts.
He said that the most difficult job is the rescue and the government involved army and Navy for this purpose.
He said the Prime Minister formed a parliamentary committee to
monitor the relief efforts and to coordinate among the Sindh
government, NDMA and PDMA.
He said heavy rains and floods caused huge devastation. He said a population of over seven million were affected by the floods. He said rains were over and above of the forcast.

He said infrastrastructure of the area have destroyed and standing
crops damaged. He said the natural disaster will badly affect the
national economy.
Nayyar Bukhari said in response to the international appeal, Iran,
Turkey and China have extended assistance for the flood victims and
hoped that other countries will follow suit.
He said so far one hundred and seventy-five thousand tents have
been provided in the affected areas and six hundred thousand food
packets were distributed among the affectees.
He said Prime Minister has previously provided two billion rupees to
NDMA for relief efforts and 1.53 billion rupees more released for this
purpose.
He said during his visit, Prime Minister has announced to provide twenty thousand rupees to each family affected by the floods.
He said the government has also offered to the civil society organizations logistic support for their relief efforts.
Earlier, Surriya Amiruddin, Kalsoom Parveen, Sabir Baloch, Dr.
Ismail Buledi and Haji Lashkari Raisani also took part in the debate.
They stressed the need for collective efforts for the relief and
