Special powers of Rangers have been extended for three more months to deal with the situation in Karachi. Provincial Home Ministry has issued a notification to this effect.

The powers given under clause five of the Anti-Terrorism Act will allow the Rangers to eliminate No Go Areas in the city.
The Rangers also take action against extortionists and target killers. Under the special powers, the Rangers will be able to search any place without issuing a prior warrant.
The Rangers will also have the power to use force against terrorists aimed at restoring peace in the city. They can also open fire in self-defence. SANA
