The Supreme Court premises have been declared safe zone by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) after checking the grounds for an explosive device on Thursday.
A containing threatening letter to the President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was found on the parking ground of the Supreme Court building. It was said in that letter that a bomb was planted inside the court building.
The letter stated that President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would be targeted, adding that the planted bomb would be detonated on 25, 26,or on 27th of August at any time.
The letter has reportedly been written by two persons who stated in the letter that their names are Aman Khan and Samandar Khan. They claimed in the letter that they have had help from the police to plant the bomb, adding that they came on a car and returned after planting the bomb and police is involved who received 25 lakh rupees in this regard.
Police and other law enforcement agencies took immediate notice of this letter, and security around the court has been beefed up.
A Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the SC premises, and combed the building for any explosives or planted device. Employees and lawyers were evacuated from the three-storey building.
Senior lawyers present at the premises said that the threat’s importance had increased against the backdrop of the court’s suo moto notice of the ongoing violence in Karachi.
The SC is scheduled to hear the Karachi violence case today (Friday), where the government is expected to submit a report.
Meanwhile, in reaction of the bomb hoax in SC former chief Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui said that it is a new development because earlier never had happened in the judicial history, adding that it might be possible that opponent of independent judiciary would be behind the scene because they don’t want independent decisions by the courts.
He further said that Judges, lawyers and petitioners have to adopt preventive measures because masses would show their concerns over the incident. We have to be more careful so that the conspiracy cold be come to its logical end, he added.
Former chief Justice said that government, opposition and masses respect the apex court, adding that protection of the apex court is responsibility of the government. In prevailing situation of the country it is responsibility of all citizens to vow maintain the independence of judiciary.
Siddiqui said that administration has to improve security of SC and saying something about the hoax would be premature, let the investigation to be complete.
Siddiqui said government, opposition and masses respect the court and it is the responsibility of government to protect the court, adding that masses should resolve to protect independent judiciary.
Former president Sindh High Bar Association Rasheed A Rizvi said that Judges and lawyers should not scare of these threatening letters, adding that this threatening letter is a great challenge for government and security forces.
He said that police of the country has failed in restoration of peace and maintain law and order situation, adding that there are only buildings of police stations in Karachi.
Meanwhile, Athar Minallah a senior lawyer of SC said that the hands behind the threatening letter want to instigate the judiciary and lawyers, we should aware of their aims, adding that court could not be scared through such letters. SANA
