At least 33 people have been killed in devastating flash floods in Kandiyan Valley of Kohistan.
According to details, Kohistan’s far-flung area of Gibrial overnight
received lashing rains in Kandiya Valley, triggering massive torrents
running down the hillsides, which washed away 80 houses down the
mountainous slope which caused death of 33 people and several people
are still missing.
Meanwhile the administration has asked for help of helicopter to recover the dead bodies from the Naullah Karang and Naullah Todi.

According to police, 33 people lost their lives and several others
went missing in the driving rains and accompanying flash floods and the
death toll was expected to rise. Local people are making all out
efforts on self-help basis to recover bodies stuck between Nullah
Kareen and Nullah Totti.
Relief efforts are very difficult to carry out in the far-flung
mountainous areas. Local representatives and administration demanded
the government to send helicopters for the relief operation in the
areas.
District Police Officer (DPO) Kohistan Mohammad Ilyas told that 16
bodies had been recovered, adding that rescue operations were facing
difficulties to manage due to the remoteness of the areas affected and
that helicopters had been requisitioned from the provincial authorities.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesman Ahmed Kamal
said the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority
(PDMA) had confirmed that 16 bodies have been recovered but the death
toll has rise up to 30-35.
Kamal said the provincial authority has requested that helicopters be sent in for relief efforts.
Hundreds of people are still stranded in remote areas of the
flood-hit region. Rescue efforts are underway to evacuate flood victims
