Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that sectarian, ethnic and political elements, extortionists and drug and land mafia are behind the recent incidents of violence in Karachi.
Talking to newsmen in Karachi on Thursday he said some of the target
killers got training abroad but he would not name any country.
The Minister said they have nabbed a number of extortionists with evidence which would be presented in the courts of law.
Mr. Rehman Malik said special powers have been given to Rangers
today, which would allow it to eliminate major dens of criminals and no
go areas in the city.
Meanwhile in separate talk Rehman Malik said that the operation of
the rangers and police would continue in Karachi until permanent peace
in Karachi is not restored.
He said that 90 persons have been arrested during last two days in
police and rangers search operation, adding that the targeted operation
on the bases of secret information is in progress in Karachi.
He said that heavy cash of illegal arms have also been recovered
from the city during the search operation, adding that the police and
rangers are conducting operation in a highly professional way and the
action would be continued until the achievement of goals.
Rehman Malik said that the safety and security of the masses of
Karachi is the responsibility of the government, adding that the
criminals arrested on Thursday would be presented before the media. SANA
