MQM assures full cooperation to SC in Karachi violence case

Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has assured the Supreme Court (SC) of rendering full cooperation in the hearing of the suo motu notice case of violence in Karachi.

MQM Leaders Farooq Sattar and Haider Abbas Rizvi met with the SC Registrar Dr. Faqeer Hussain in Islamabad on Thursday and told him that their party will facilitate the court by providing reference material and other information.
They also said that the MQM wants to become a party in the case.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hear the case today (Friday). The attorney general had been asked to submit a comprehensive report on the Karachi situation during the hearing. Earlier CJ has shown concerns for not providing adequate security to the citizens of Karachi and took a suo motu action on the issue on Wednesday. He said that the ongoing violence in Karachi is the violation of Articles 9, 14, 15, 18 and 24 of the Constitution.
The chief secretary and inspector general Sindh were also directed to submit details of the incidents by the apex court.
MQM leader Farooq Sattar has said his party can produce key evidence about Karachi killings in Supreme Court.
Sattar submitted a plea to become a party in suo motu proceedings about target killings in Karachi.
Later on talking to media the MQM leader said that if the plea would be approved he will present his stance and produce substantial proofs about the killings.
The MQM leaders expressed full confidence over the court during their meeting with the Registrar of the Supreme Court and said that they want to assure the court of their absolute backing on Karachi’s issue.
Sattar and Rizvi expressed their wish on the occasion that at any cost the unrest in Karachi should come to an end and such a strategy should be formed which could maintain peace on permanent basis in the metropolis. SANA
