SHC accepts Rangers personnel appeals in Sarfaraz murder case

Sindh High Court (SHC) has accepted the pleas of the convicted Rangers’ personnel for the hearing in the Sarfaraz Shah murder and would hear the appeal against the verdict of Anti Terrorism Court (ATC).

Two-member bench of SHC headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed conducted the initial hearing of the appeals on Thursday and sent a notice to Prosecutor General Sindh as well as summoned the case record from the ATC. An appeal was lodged against the sentencing of seven including six Rangers’ personnel.
The ATC had awarded Ranger personnel Shahid Zafar the death sentence while the remaining six were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Earlier Rangers’ personal Shahid Zafar was handed death sentence by ATC along with paying Rs200,000 as compensation to Shah’s legal heirs and six others were sentenced for life imprisonment, have taken the stance that the sentences are against the law and do not fulfill the requirements of justice.
The convicts also maintained that the case does not fall under the jurisdiction of ATC and hence they should be given bail. They have requested the court to strike down the verdict.
It is worth mentioning here that Sarfraz Shah was shot dead by the Rangers accusing him of robbery, but his family demanded justice proclaiming that he was an innocent passerby. SANA
