National Assembly assured new transformers to reduce transmission losses

Islamabad : National Assembly was assured on Tuesday by Water & Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar that new transformers, being planned to procure, will help lower transmission losses and improve power
supply especially during summer. He was responding to Calling Attention Notice by Abid Sher Ali, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Muhammad Pervaiz Malik & Muhammad Afzal Khokhar on purchase of electric transformers by WAPDA at high rates and their non-availability. Qamar said there is plan to replace all transformers with those having new specifications. Their procurement was delayed for few months due to dispute within Pakistan Electric Power Company PEPCO and Distribution Companies DISCOS about their purchase. He said according to PEPCO, other independent consultants, transformers with new design,  specifications will reduce 27% transmission losses in 200KV transformers and 23% in smaller ones. Improved efficiency of transformers will recover extra price in form of controlling losses. "If transformers are not procured in good time, there will be huge load in hot summer season and we will be unable to replace faulty ones due to their non-availability in stocks." Minister said companies dealing in old type of transformers were creating confusion about specifications and prices of new units. There is need to join hands for national cause of meeting energy shortage.
