Nawabshah : Traders here went on a shutter-down strike on Monday to protest against extortionists, who opened fire on four shopkeepers for not paying the demanded sum.
The protestors also staged a sit-in at Sanghar Road and burnt tyres to record their protest. According to details, the extortionists had demanded money from traders of Sanghar Road and on their refusal opened fire on them. Resultantly, four traders, Iqbal Arain, Akram Arain, Muhammed Umar and Muhammed Jamil got severely injured. They were rushed to the Peoples Medical College Hospital where the condition of Iqbal Arain and Muhammed Umar was declared to be serious.
The traders captured one of the extortionists and handed him over to police who reached the spot soon after the incident, while other accused managed to flee.
The shopkeepers pulled down the shutters and blocked the main Sanghar Road. They burnt tyres and suspended traffic. Soon after getting the information, DSP Saddar Aijaz Hussain along with other police personnel reached the spot and controlled the situation.
