LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the deteriorating situation in the country demands that all stakeholders, including political leadership, Army and the judiciary, sit together and discuss the challenges facing the country.
He was addressing journalists after inaugurating a three-day anti-polio campaign in Lahore. “I have contacted the prime minister on the advice of Nawaz Sharif to suggest him to sit together with the Army and the judiciary and discuss a strategy to steer the country out of the current situation,” the Punjab CM said.
Shahbaz said the alarming state of the affairs in the country demanded an out-of-the-box thinking and extraordinary decisions for the greater good of a great number of people and the country as a whole.
The CM further said that the political leadership in and outside parliament, military and judiciary would have to evolve a collective strategy for solving the problems facing the country. He said there was a need for adopting national thinking and seriousness without point scoring, to reach a unanimous solution to the problems. He said hewas ready to go to anyone to discuss the national issues and find a solution to them. He said the PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif had asked him to contact the national leadership for the purpose.
In reply to a question about loadshedding of gas in the province, the CM said a committee comprising industrialists and traders had again been constituted which would contact the federal government. He said industrialists, traders and workers of Faisalabad had announced launching a long march to Islamabad on March 5, but they decided to postpone the plan on his request and give another chance to the federal government.

Meanwhile, talking to Special US Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Marc Grossman, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif called upon the US to establish its relations with Pakistan on the basis of mutual respect and confidence under which both the countries should look after each others’ interests.

The CM expressed the hope that the new envoy would be able to play a meaningful role for improvement and strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and America.
