ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has urged the Muslim Ummah to promote economic cooperation between the Muslim countries and reform the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) to make it a vibrant body.
“Muslim Ummah have rich natural resources and by enhancing mutual cooperation all Muslim countries can materialize the dream of progress and prosperity,” he said while addressing International Seerat conference here on Monday that was arranged by Majlis-i-Sout-ul-Islam.
Scholars and ulema from fourteen Islamic countries including Pakistan are attending the conference. The prime minister emphasized the need for promoting the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) to ensure a peaceful and stable society.
He said the prevailing situation demands practical steps for promotion of unity and brotherhood following the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. “We all have to cooperate for eliminating differences and bridging gap between various religions and sects to ensure a peaceful society,” he added.
He said by following and implementing the teachings and practice of Holy Prophet (PBUH) we can move forward towards a peaceful and stable society. The prime minister said, “We should keep in mind that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) not only preached brotherhood and peace but also implemented these teachings in the society which led towards establishment of first Islamic State.”
Prime Minister Gilani also recalled the assassination of former Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti in Islamabad and termed it an attempt to drive a wedge in fraternal relations between Muslims and the Christian communities and to tarnish Pakistan’s image.
“I strictly warn such elements that they would not succeed through such cowardly acts as the Christian community is patriotic and always ready to sacrifice their lives for the country.” He mentioned the incident when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) specially hosted a Christian delegation from Najran and treated them as His private guest. They were allowed to stay at Masjid-e-Nabvi and permitted to perform their religious duties.
The prime minister said that under the prevailing circumstances it was vital that the entire nation stands united by rising above their petty differences and confront all difficulties. He said that the youth needs guidance in the light of Islamic teachings and it is the responsibility of religious educational institutions to concentrate on the promotion of modern education along with Islamic teachings. He directed all government institutions including Religious Affairs Ministry to fully cooperate with the religious institutions in this regard.
