Govt giving top priority to education to exploit true potential of youth & secure future of country: PM Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that despite financial constraints, the government is giving top priority to the education to exploit the true potential of the youth and secure the future of the country.

He was addressing a ceremony held in connection with the inauguration of Islamabad Model School for Boys and Model school for Girls at the Prime Minister’s Staff colony here on Wednesday.
He noted that our youth are talented and by providing them opportunties and facilities, they can excel in all fields for the progress and prosperity of the country. He said the youth will be equipped with latest knowledge to realize the dream of Quaid-e-Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and PPP’s leaders Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto of a strong and stable Pakistan.
Describing the youth as builders of the nation, Prime Minister Gilani said that they played a pivotal role in the creation of Pakistan besides their contributions in respect of fund raising during calamities can not be overlooked. He said there is a dire need to create awareness among the youth about the country’s history and the problems faced by the country today.
He said that he is holding consultation with the chief ministers to chalk out a new education policy. To this effect, an educational conference will be organized in the capital to evolve consensus on a uniform education system. He said that several other important decisions particuarly relating to the training of teachers will be taken for the promotion of education. Under the 18th amendment, the education has been devolved to the provinces but the federal government will continue to provide guidelines and assistance to them.
The prime minister pointed out that women constitute fifty one percent of the total population and they will be given equal employment and education facilities in order to make them productive citizens.
The Prime Minister said that terrorism and extremism are the biggest hurdles in the way of the country’s development and by fighting illiteracy, the mothers of all evil, we can combat the menace effectively.
In his welcome address, Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry said that the two model schools have been established at a cost of 115 million rupees. He briefed the prime minister about the steps being taken for promotion of education in the capital territory.
Later, the prime minister visited the class rooms and mixed up with the students. He also planted a sapling in the building of Islamabad Model School for Boys. SANA
