Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Tehseen Anwar Ali Shah tendered
his resignation in the Supreme Court during hearing of the National
Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case,
on Wednesday, saying that
he can not work under a junior, meanwhile the lawyer for Moonis Elahi,
Babar Awan has submitted a petition in the Supreme Court against the
chief investigation officer in the NICL case, Zafar Qureshi for his
removal form the investigations of the case.
The hearing was conducted by three member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday.
The court said that action would be taken against the violators of
court orders, adding that submit reports of investigation on the FIR
registered against the responsible persons who gave the fake
information of bomb blast to stop Zafar Qureshi to entering in the
office of FIA Lahore to the Registrar Supreme Court.
The apex court directed the Director FIA Lahore Waqar Haider and
Assistant Director FIA Lahore Khawaja Hamad to submit their written
statements on the violation of court orders.
Tendering his resignation, DG, FIA Tehseen Anwar Shah said being
the Director General of the FIA; he could not work under his Junior
FIA’s Additional Director General Capt (retd) Zafar Qureshi, chief
investigator probing the NICL scam.
Responding to which, Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry
said that Shah should not threat the court with his move and if he
wants to resign then he should resign before the concerned authority.
Counsel for Moonis Elahi, Babar Awan alleged that Zafar Qureshi was
unable to conduct an unbiased investigation. He requested the court to
replace Qureshi, for he had earlier stated that Moonis was threatening
him. The CJP said this request would be rejected. Babar said that Zafar
Qureshi was threatened by Moonis Elahi to kill and he should not
investigate the case. The court said decision on this plea would be
taken later.
The court had ordered Mr Shah to allow officers from Mr Qureshi’s
team to rejoin the probe. Moreover, the court had directed Mr Shah to
associate himself with the team to facilitate the probe.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Iftikhar reprimanded Director FIA Lahore
Waqar Haider saying he was creating hurdles in the way of implementing
the court’s orders.
Tehsin Anwar said that a case had been registered against the one
who created a bomb hoax, adding that all files of the case have been
provided to Qureshi.
Assistant Director FIA Lahore Khwaja Hammad told the court Director
FIA Lahore Waqar Haider had said that he was “under a lot of pressure”.
Khwaja Hammad informed the court the Director Waqar Haider asked him to
stop Zafar from entering in the office.
The Supreme Court directed Hammad to give the same statement to
police; meanwhile Director Waqar Haider said he gave no direction to
Hammad regarding bomb.
Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing for an unspecified period.
It is worth mentioning here that the hearing was attended by
Attorney General, DG FIA Tehseen Anwar Shah, Interior Secretary
Siddique Akbar, Investigation Offices of NICL case, Director and
Assistant Director FIA Lahore, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain and a number of
workers of PML-Q. SANA
