Swiss gov't confirms 2 citizens kidnapped in Pakistan

GENEVA -  The Swiss Foreign Ministry is confirming that two of its citizens have been kidnapped in Pakistan's southwest Baluchistan province.

It said Saturday that Pakistani authorities notified the embassy in Islamabad late Friday following the abduction of the pair, who were travelling through the region by car.
It says the kidnapping is the first such incident involving Swiss citizens in Pakistan.
The pair's identity was not disclosed.
Pakistani officials said Friday that a man and a woman, possibly Swiss nationals, had been kidnapped in the Lorali district, about 150 kilometres north of Quetta, Baluchistan's capital.
The province has a low-level separatist insurgency, and criminal gangs involved in the kidnapping for ransom trade are common. AP
