Pakistani government released 14 Indian fishermen from district jail Malir as goodwill gesture here on Thursday.
The released fishermen expressed their happiness over the release; these fishermen belong to Gujarat state of India.
The released men will now travel to Lahore via bus arranged by an
NGO and will be handed over along with other 24 Indian prisoners to the
Indian authorities at Wagah Border today (Friday).
The Indian fishermen had been arrested 15 months back for illegally
entering Pakistani waters. They were among 274 fishermen who are
detained in Pakistani jails.
According to sources, both countries released the prisoners by
showing goodwill gesture on the occasion of Indo-Pak foreign ministers
talks, adding that Pakistan would release more Indian fishermen in
coming days, meanwhile India released 87 Pakistani fishermen on
Wednesday.
Speaking outside Malir Jail, Chairperson of the Committee for the
Welfare of Prisoners Nasir Aslam Zahid said the issue of fishermen’s
release should be on the agenda of Indo-Pak talks.
