Hide and seek game by govt with regard to Hussain Asghar is not good: CJP Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has said the hide and seek game by the government in respect of Hussain Asghar is not good remarking it is strange that no one is able to locate the whereabouts of an officer of the status of IG.

CJP gave these remarks while presiding over a 6-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of Hajj scandal case here Thursday.
Attorney General (AG) Moulvi Anwar ul Haq and DG FIA Tehsin Anwar told the court Hussain Asghar had left Skardu for Islamabad on July 26 but afterwards he was not being located nor any telephonic contact could be made with him.
The court expressed surprise upon it. Justice Arif Hussain Khilji inquired that the incident of disappearing of a high-ranking officer and lack of any contact with him was incredible. AG told he had held extensive talks with Prime Minister (PM) who had said he would call him (AG) again therefore, time be given till Monday in this regard.
The CJP while rejecting the plea for seeking time till Monday said this was not possible and the matter could not be left midway. Therefore, reply be sought till today and the court be informed in this respect, he said.
CJP asked AG to tell the competent authority court was aware of its limitations. This is not a case of an individual but it was a matter of principle, CJP remarked.
“If one person decides that one has to follow the constitution then it is correct thing but pursuing the deviational path will not be correct”, CJP observed.
AG told the court he had talked directly to PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and he had promised to consider the entire case.
CJP remarked he had no mistrust on government. “Is there any hindrance in handing over charge to Hussain Asghar”, CJP inquired from DG FIA.
DG FIA stated before the court it had been informed from the office of IG Gilgit-Baltistan that Hussain Asghar had left for Islamabad while DIG headquarters had informed he was in Skardu. “I say on oath that there is no pressure whatsoever from any side on him in brining back Hussain Asghar. His all numbers are powered off. Efforts are being made in Skardu police rest house to make contact with Hussain Asghar through wireless”, he told.
CJP said it was matter of wonder that all other institutions including FIA are tracing out Hussain Asghar but he is not being located.
The court has adjourned the hearing of the case till today. Online
