Govt to take Parliament’s advice over Judiciary-Executive stand-off

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday evening held a meeting with the coalition partners at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and discussed current political, economic and energy scenario in the country.

According to a private TV channel the meeting also discussed the current stand-off between the Judiciary and the Executive and decided to seek Parliament’s advice on the issue.
It was decided during the meeting that Parliament should be asked to guide the government on political and economic policies. The meeting was co-chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. Among others who attended the meeting included PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain, Federal Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Senator Dr Babar Awan, Senator Afrasyab Khattak, Senator Zahid Khan, Senator Kalsoom Parveen, Munir Orakzai, MNA Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, and spokesman to the President Farhatullah Babar.
According to a hand out issued by the PID, the president briefed the participants of the meeting about his recent visits to Iran, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. The meeting also discussed the forthcoming National Assembly session to be held on August 1. According to a private TV channel, during the meeting the Prime Minister proposed to take Parliament into confidence over interference in the powers of the Executive and to seek the Lower House’s guidance on the issue.
The government is also decided to call Senate’s session simultaneously with the NA session, the TV channel further said. Online
