Aitzaz sees no harm in deploying army in Karachi

LAHORE: Key member of Pakistan Peoples Party and former president Supreme Court Bar Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan favored army’s deployment in violence-hit Karachi and it is not unconstitutional.

Talking to the media in Lahore High Court, PPP leader said that Karachi is Pakistan’s economic hub and vital for the country’s progress and if there would be a law and order problem, it would disturb the whole country. People are being kidnapped, tortured and then killed.
He added nobody should be afraid of an army operation, as it would be carried out under the Sindh civil administration.
He cited the example of the UK and India where army was called whenever civil rulers felt that only army could help out in resolving the problem. The army is a national institution and subordinate department of the federal government, Aitzaz said.
The renowned lawyer said that peace could not be restored in Karachi until an operation was conducted to de-weaponise the city.
He said that politics and extortion had mixed up in Karachi owing to which economic problems were also emerging. Online
