Federal Govt unconstitutionally takes over provincial autonomy: Pervez Rashid

LAHORE: PML-N Senator and Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab, Pervaiz Rashid has said that the federal government, under its unconstitutional powers, has taken over the control of provincial autonomy granted in the constitution.

He said that unfortunately federal government has failed to grant autonomy to the provinces under the constitution and is trying to create hurdles in its implementation. He further said that in this way federal government is destroying the real spirit of provincial autonomy. He said that only 40 out of 160 institutions have been given to the provinces whereas the remaining 120 departments have been kept by the federal government and is conspiring to maintain its control over their assets and the income of billions of rupees.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that federal government in violation of the constitution has usurped workers welfare institutions, hospitals, tourists centers and evacuee properties whereas as per provincial autonomy granted under the constitution, all these institutions should be under the control of provinces. He said that the issue of complete autonomy to the provinces will be raised in the meeting of Council of Common Interests and if no progress was made, then the extreme step of going to the Supreme Court will be taken. He said that illegal control of federal government over the provincial autonomy will not be tolerated at all. Online
