David Cameron assures British support to Pak to tackle political difficulties

Lahore/Islamabad : British Prime Minister David Cameron has assured Pakistan of full support of the British government in tiding over political difficulties.

In a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Cameron has offered condolences to Pakistan over the killing of more than 80 Frontier Constabulary personnel and civilians in suicide attacks in Shabqadar on Friday.

He said Britain acknowledged the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in the war against terrorism and also realized the losses suffered by it, The Dawn reports.

Gilani said Pakistan would continue its cooperation with the West in the counterterrorism efforts but emphasized that its sovereignty must be respected.

Cameron assured Gilani that he would convey Pakistan's viewpoint to the US when the US President, Barack Obama visits Britain next week.

In a related development, the permanent under-secretary of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Simon Fraser, met Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and held talks on bilateral, regional and global issues.
 
Bashir expressed satisfaction on the ongoing consultations between Pakistan and Britain and the elevation of bilateral discussions to the enhanced strategic dialogue. ANI
