Dr. Babar Awan, Federal Minsterfor Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Monday stressed to solve the problem faced by anti-terrorism courts set up in all the four provinces within one week.
He said this while chairing an important meeting to discussthe difficulties being faced by anti-terrorism courts set up inall the four provinces.The meeting was convened under the direction of Supreme Court.
The meeting was attended by Ayaz Soomro, Law MinisterGovernment of Sindh, Ms Shama Parveen Magsi, Law MinsterGovernment of Balochistan, Barrister Arshad Abdullah, LawMinister Government of Khayber Pakhtoonkhwa, IG Islamabad, ChiefCommissioner Islamabad and Home Secretaries/AdditionalSecretaries IG's/DIG's and Prosecutors Generals of all theprovinces.
Muhammad Masood Chishti, Federal Secretary for Law, Justiceand Parliamentary Affairs was also present in the meting.
Rana Sana Ullah, Law Minster Government of Punjab did notattend the meeting in spite of the fact that the meeting wasconvened as per direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Dr. Babar Awan said that premises of ATCs in all the fourprovinces need to be repaired, renovated and maintained so thatconducive environment may be created for better working. Heemphasized on the need to provide security guards to publicprosecutors on the day of prosecution along with a police squad. He not only stressed the necessity of doubling theappointments of public prosecutors but also recommended to raise their salaries.
The Minister said all the provinces should ensure that necessarystaff and equipment may be provided to all the presiding officersand prosecutors. He also recommended that services of all the contractemployees in ATCs be regularized. The staff of all the FederalCourts who have completed three-year at one place of posting betransferred to other courts, the minister added.
He announced the grant of Rs 1 million for Libraries inATCs in each province and Rs0.5 million to Public ProsecutorsLibraries.
Dr. Babar Awan said that the purpose of the meeting is totake all stakeholders on the board and seek solutions of theproblems faced in the process of investigation, prosecution andin dealing with heinous crimes.
The Minister directed to solve the problems of the courts allover the country within one week and the representatives of theprovinces assured to implement the recommendations within thestipulated time.
