Senate body on Sindh floods collects Rs 11 million for relief

ISLAMABAD: The special committee of Senate constituted for the assistance of the flood affectees of Sindh has collected Rs 11 million approximately from which edible oil and other essential items would be distributed among the calamity hit people.

The meeting of the committee was held at Parliament House here on Tuesday. The opposition leader in upper house Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidry was on the chair. The meeting took review the loss from the heavy rains and flood as well as relief and rescue operation in Sindh. The meeting decided that the Senators would deposit 25,000 rupees each forms their salary in the account of Senate Emergency Relief Fund. On the occasion PML(N) Senator Ishaq Dar announced to donate one million rupees , six senators of MQM also announced to give Rs 0.5 million , Humayun Khan Mandokhel also gave same amount, whereas Senators Tariq Azim, Gulshan Saeed, Ilyas Bilour and Ghufran Khan also deposited Rs 0.2 million each for the help of flood affectees.
The committee was informed that Rs 2.5 million would be collected form the Senators, whereas Rs 3.6 million is already in the Senate Emergency Relief’s account. President Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Haji Ghulam Ali announced that the federation would donate Rs 2.5 million for the relief of flood-affected people of Sindh.
For relief work and monitoring, the committee also constituted three sub committees including Finance, Procurement Committees and third one would to coordinate with the traders. The head of Finance sub committee would be Haji Adeel, procurement sub committee‘s chairman would be Ishaq Dar. Seemi Siddiqui would chair the sub committee for the coordination with traders.
On the occasion Rehmat Ullah Kakar suggested that Pakistani ambassadors should be mobilized to collect funds for the relief of flood hit population. Senator Sajid Mir criticized the working of NDMA by saying that the performance of the authority is not up to the mark. Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that both President and Prime Minister should have been present in the country when the Sindh is inundated with floods. He said that at present the amount of Rs 29 billion is present in PSDP which should be utilized for the support of flood affected people. Online
