Supreme Court orders restoration of previous investigation team in Hajj scam

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to restore the previous FIA team that was investigating the Hajj corruption case from Monday; meanwhile the court has ordered the DG FIA to fully cooperate with the investigation team.

A six-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Mian Shaker Ullah Jan, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Pervez Khan , Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard the suo moto notice case against the alleged corruption in last year’s Hajj operation.
During the hearing of the case deputy director FIA Chaudhry Manzoor submitted the investigation report in the court.
Chaudhry Manzoor informed the court that investigation against the former religious affairs minister hamid saeed kazmi is going on and the FIA is investigating the matter of 24 canal land and bank accounts.
On this, CJ in his remarks said that who ever will violate court orders will be sent to jail first and would be heard later.
He further said that the court had ordered for action against investigating officer Javed Bukhari within four weeks but two months have been passed and court orders have not been implemented yet.
Chief justice remarked that government should not protect the culprits and former secretary establishment Rauf Chaudhry should be sent to jail.
He also criticized the absence of DG FIA and ordered that Secretary Interior, DG FIA and secretary establishment to appear in court in the next hearing today (Tuesday).
During today’s proceedings, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry stated that concerned officers are transferred off the probe as soon as they begin to make progress in the case.
Earlier also, the court has expressed displeasure and frustration with the slow pace of investigation into mismanagement in last year’s Haj operations.
Chief Justice says government is diverting attention as some ministers are involved in the case.
CJP also remarked that pilgrims are being ripped off, while the government was trying to save the people responsible for it. Whenever there is some progress in the case, the investigators are removed, the court observed. Hussain Asghar was made IG simply to remove him from the investigation of the case, the court added.

The court want him to investigate the case otherwise court will issue the order. The court warned that violators of court orders would be sent to jail.
Chief justice said that there is no need of sending summaries to the prime minister, adding that prime minister has done nothing on the previous letter.
Chief justice ordered the Secretary Establishment Suhail Ahmed to present the record of the case, adding that the court itself would issues the order.
Chief justice ordered the secretary establishment to present the notification of the reinstatement of Javed Bukhari today (Tuesday), adding that if he would fail to do so the court would act against him for violating the orders.
Justice Khilgi Arif Hussain questioned whether there is respect of court orders in any institution.
The chief justice said that the names of the ministers are included in the corruption of the hajj scandal that is why the government is trying to divert the attention of the court.
Chief justice said that Hussain Asghar is an honest officer that is why the government has removed him from the investigations.
The court ordered to restore the previous investigating team and also instructed to issue the notification on Monday. Later, the court adjourned the hearing. SANA
