DG FIA be suspended, arrested and produced in court handcuffed: SC

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has expressed grave concern over non appearance of Director General (DG) FIA in NICL scandal case before it despite being summoned and directed secretary establishment to issue his suspension orders forthwith, arrest him and produce him in the court handcuffed.

The court on non-receipt of reply from government also reserved its judgement on Zafar Qureshi suspension issue. A 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the case of NICL for hearing Monday.
During course of hearing Attorney General (AG) presented FIA report about the accounts of Mohsin Warraich and Moonis Elahi in the court. As per FIA report 1300000 pounds have been transferred to the accounts of both these persons in NICL scandal case.
Upon it CJP said the matter had been shelved following the withdrawal of Zafar Q ureshi from the investigation.
The court expressed resentment over non appearance of DG FIA Tehsin Anwar before it and ordered he be summoned in the court.
Under the directives of SC, Registrar SC Faqir Hussain tried to contact DG FIA and telephoned him. However Tahsin Anwar did not listen to telephonic call. CJP expressed extreme displeasure when registrar SC informed the court in this respect.
CJP directed secretary establishment to suspend DG FIA forthwith, arrest him and produce in the court handcuffed.
Information secretary submitted report on advertisement with reference to court in this case.
CJP while stopping him from giving any explanation asked him to fix responsibility only in this matter.
Secretary establishment told the court summary was sent to Prime Minister against DG FIA but no reply had been received despite lapse of 5 days.
Citing to foreign accounts AG told the court the matter had been raised with British authorities. However no headway had been made so far, he submitted.
CJP said in his remarks the matter stands shelved due to withdrawal of Zafar Qureshi from the investigation. Political interference was started in the SC affairs and court’s decisions were ridiculed. It was tried to politicise the case which was intolerable, he remarked.
AG told the court reply of the competent authority could not be presented. More time is needed in connection with reply, he added.
CJP while expressing resentment said “ you have already sought much time. These are dilatory tactics. Judgment has been reserved on this matter which will soon be pronounced”. Online
