Govt plea seeking more time for appointment of chairman NAB rejected

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has rejected government plea about seeking more time in connection with appointment of chairman NAB remarking that government is not serious in the matter of this appointment and only dilatory tactics are being used.

A 2-member bench of SC comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali took up the case for hearing. Court while rejecting government plea whereby the court was requested to allow more time in connection with induction of chairman NAB maintained government should appoint chairman NAB as soon as possible.
Court said government was not serious in appointment of chairman NAB. Government made Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain case as basis in Chairman NAB extension case. No review petition was filed on the verdict rendered by the court.
Government had filed plea requesting the court matter of appointment of chairman NAB was already pending hearing in the court, therefore, it was not possible for the government to appoint chairman NAB till the announcement of decision by SC. Therefore, government be allowed more time till the decision is announced and chairman NAB case be heard soon.
It may be recalled that court had allowed time till July 21 for appointment of chairman NAB and prosecutor general and this period had now expired.
