ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza
Gilani held a one on one meeting on Friday and agreed to continue with
efforts to woo back MQM into the government fold.
According to
sources, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani met with President Asif Ali
Zardari on Friday at the Presidency on the return of president to the
country from London.
The two discussed over all political
situation in the country, target killing sin Karachi, separation of MQM
from governed and situation arising out of this, resignation of
Governor Sindh, formation of grand alliance and other issues of
importance.
Sources told that both the leaders agreed that MQM
sitting on opposition benches poses no threat to the government however
since MQM is an old friend and was an ally thus all efforts would be
made to woo them back into the government.
Source said that
president Zardari said that the country right now is passing through a
critical phase and is facing many challenges. Anti-state elements are
busy in designing conspiracies to dismember country as well as to fail
the democratic system and isolate Pakistan in the world arena. He said
that the government would foil all such conspiracies. He said that the
country cannot afford to be destabilized at this juncture and the
democratic forces should respect each other mandate.
President
said that government is not worried over the formation of opposition
grand alliances as grand alliances are formed against strong
governments. He said that the democratic government should think in the
best interest of the country and should stop turning every matter into
apolitical issue.
Sources also said that views were exchanged
over handing over of portfolios to the affected ministers of the
devolution process under the 18th amendment. Online
