Forty-three teachers from all over the country will depart
for studying as well as teaching at United States educational
institutions on the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement and
Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship programme.
A pre-departure orientation ceremony was arranged by the United
States Educational Foundation in Pakistan for the departing students in
Islamabad on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest Executive Director of the United States
Educational Foundation in Pakistan Ms. Rita Akhtar Fulbright is the
largest academic programme in the world. She said teachers are
privileged members of the society who build the future of nation. She
hoped that the teachers will represent Pakistan very well in the United
Sttes and return to make a real difference here.
The departing teachers were briefed about visa regulations,
American culture, US higher education and campus life and adjusting to
life as a new teacher or student iln the United States.
The eight week programme was launched in Pakistan this year for the
very first time. It provides Pakistani teachers from public schools
with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas
to enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge of the
United States. Focused on building expertise in best practice teaching
methodologies and techniques, participants will also engage in host
university-organized two-week internships at a local secondary school.
The programme is currently being offered in the fields of English as
a Foreign Language, Social Studies, Civics, History, Mathematics and
Science.
The programme is aimed to promote mutual understanding between the
people of Pakistan and the people of the United States through
educational and cultural exchange. SANA
