PML-N, MQM announce to play role of forceful opposition on national issues

ISLAMABAD: PML-N and MQM have announced to play the role of forceful opposition on national issues besides making contacts with other parties for forging Grand Opposition Alliance.

PML-N and MQM held talks here Wednesday for formation of grand opposition alliance. MQM was represented by Raza Haroon, Haider Abbas and Waseem Akhtar while PML-N side was comprising senator Ishaq Dar, Pervez Rashid, Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Mushahid Ullah Khan.
A joint statement was issued on the conclusion of the meeting. The joint statement said that a wide spectrum of issues including overall situation of the country, rampant inflation, growing load shedding of gas and energy, deteriorating law and order situation, patronisation of corruption at government level, ever worst rigging of history in AJK polls, misuse of force by government in Kashmir polls and other matters came under discussion in the meeting.
Joint statement further said that both the parties had decided in principle to play the role of forceful opposition in the parliament within the scope of law and constitution and they would launch joint struggle in senate, national assembly and provincial assemblies.
Both the parties during the meeting had agreed that they would not give statements against each other.
Well placed sources told both the parties expressed their reservations and particularly MQM leaders adopted aggressive posture. The talk’s process was however moved forward on the assurance given by PML-N about extending cooperation and not targeting MQM leadership.
Sources told Online that MQM made it clear on PML-N it had no intention to rejoin ruling coalition and government in the prevailing situation. Both the parties extended invitation to each other for visiting Nine Zero and Raiwind, which were accepted.
Talking to media men along with Haider Abbas Rizvi and Raza Haroon after the meeting PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said political parties would not take any illegal or unconstitutional step and joint efforts for steering the country out of challenges would be taken forward. Political parties would take every step within the ambit of law and constitution. United Opposition had already announced to sit on opposition benches and a formal application had already been filed in this respect.
Responding to a question senator Ishaq Dar said there were estrangements among the political parties but it was need of hour to bury differences and work together for the sake of national interest.
About declaring MQM a terrorist outfit by Mian Nawaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar said 3 wars had taken place between Pakistan and India and despite it the dialogue process was continuing between the two countries. “We have to bury the past and move forward”, he added.
He told that work on formation of grand opposition alliance had been started adding “ JUI-F and other parties would also be welcomed in grand alliance . “
About the issue of opposition leader in senate he said “we want legal and constitutional clarification as what decision has been taken in senate on this matter is not correct; Now it depends on government if it corrects itself and introduce fair transparent system of accountability and if government does not take serious step then it will have to go, he underlined.
MQM leader Raza Haroon said that governor, federal and provincial ministers of MQM had already resigned adding this meeting was the first step and it would be taken forward. Online
